abilify (aripiprazole) this is an antipsychotic medication, this is used to treat the psychotic conditions. It is not sure that abilify safe and effective even for children.

What is abilify?

Abilify is an antipsychotic medication; it works by changing the chemical actions in the brain. This is used to treat the symptoms of psychic conditions such as Schizophrenia and Bipolar I Disorder also called as manic depression. It is not sure that abilify is safe for the young children who have the above psychic symptoms. Abilify can be used with other medicines to cure the major depression disorders in adults. Abilify is also used for the children who are 6 years or older to treat TOurette’s disorder and it is also used to treat the symptoms of autistic disorder such as aggression, mood swings, temper tantrums, irritability and self-injury.

Note: abilify is not approved for treating the psychotic conditions related to dementia, because this may increase the risk of death in the older adults who have dementia related conditions.

You can stop using Abilify if you have symptoms such as fever with stiff muscles and rapid heart rate, uncontrolled muscle movements, numbness or weakness, vision problems speech or balance or headache.

Things to be followed before taking Abilifyu

You should not take abilify if you are allergic to aripiprazole, because this may increase the risk of death in the older adults with dementia related conditions. Tell your doctor if you have the below listed diseases to make sure that abilify is safe for you.

  • Heart disease or any other heart related problems
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • High cholesterol of triglycerides
  • History of low white blood cells
  • Family or personal history of diabetes
  • Problem in swallowing
  • Epilepsy

The liquid form of abilify contains 15 grams of sugar per every dose, so before taking this oral solution just inform your doctor if you have history of diabetes. Because this may cause high blood sugar level if you are debetic checks your blood sugar level regularly while taking abilify. The oral disintegration of this medicine contains 3 milligrams of phenylalanine per tablet, so before taking Ablify Discmelt just inform your doctor if you have phenylketonuria.

If you take antipsychotic medicine in the last 3 months of your pregnancy it many cause problems to your newborn baby, such as breathing problems, feeding problems, tremors,, fussiness, limp or stiff muscles. If you are pregnant take your doctor’s advice whether to stop or continue taking abilify.

How to take abilify?

Take abilify exactly as prescribed by your doctor, just follow all the directions on the prescription label. Even your doctor may change the doseou to make sure to get best results. Do not take abilify more than 6 weeks unless your doctor told you to continue. Abilify can be taken with or without food.

What will happen if you miss the dose?

Try to take the medicine without missing any dose in case if you miss the dose take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time to your next dose then it is best to skip the missed dose don’t take extra medicine to makeup the missed dose.

What happens if you take overdose?

Immediately seek the medical attention if you take overdose of Abilify. Because this may cause symptoms such as vomiting, drowsiness, confusion, tremors, aggression, fast or slow heart rate, trouble in breathing or fainting.

Side effects of abilify

  • Severe agitation, restless feeling or distress
  • Twitching or uncontrolled movements of eyes, face, lips, tongue, arms or legs.
  • Trouble in swallowing or problem with speech
  • Thinking about suicide or self hurting
  • Sever reaction in nervous system, uneven heartbeat
  • Low blood cell counts
  • High blood sugar.

The common side effects of abilify

  • weight gain;
  • blurred vision;
  • nausea, vomiting, changes in appetite, constipation;
  • drooling;
  • headache, dizziness, drowsiness, feeling tired;
  • anxiety, feeling restless;
  • sleep problems (insomnia); or
  • cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat.
